Overview
Our work in barbershops began in 2015 through our pilot project “Mind My Hair, Hear My Mind”, and since we have continued to develop our relationship with local barbers and deliver pieces of work in collaboration with a group who form the BAME Barbers Network. Some of this work has included: Trim ’N’ Grin events, training in mental health, active listening and blood pressure testing and delivering workshops in a pupil referral unit (PRU).
Trim 'N' Grin is engagement sessions that we run during half-terms and summer holidays where we offer free haircuts to school-age young people.
We work with barbers and our community partners to deliver events at different sites in the boroughs of Croydon and Merton.
The events uplift the mood of the young people we meet and we get the chance to have discussions around mental health and raise awareness of support services young people can access when they need help.
Follow usWelcome to the Trim 'N' Grin Podcast, where we look at real issues from inside a real barbershop.
In this episode, we're discussing the issue of COVID-19, vaccinations and the challenges that the pandemic presented for young people and the wider Croydon community.
