Give Me A Break!
12th March 2025 is Young Carers Action Day. A special day dedicated to recognising the incredible contributions of young carers. This year’s theme, “Give Me A Break”, highlights the importance of ensuring that young carers get the time and support they need to rest, recharge, and focus on their own wellbeing.
Are You a Young Carer?
Many young people don’t realise that they are young carers. If you help your family with shopping, cooking, managing money, or providing emotional support, you might be one. While caring for a loved one is an incredible responsibility, it can also impact your health, social life, and education.
You don’t have to do it alone—help is available.

Our Young Carers Service – Here for You!
If you’re aged 7-25 and live in Croydon, our Young Carers Service at Off the Record is here to support you. We offer free, friendly support to young people caring for a parent or sibling with a physical disability, mental health condition, long-term illness, learning difficulty, or substance dependency.
How We Help Young Carers Take a Break
Young carers need a break! Caring for a loved one is rewarding, but it can also be exhausting. Every young carer deserves time for themselves—to rest, to have fun, and to feel supported.
Trips & Activities – We organise fun school holiday trips like trampolining, horse riding, cinema outings, and visits to Brighton or London. These activities provide a well-deserved break and a chance to meet other young carers who understand your experiences.
Mental Health Support – We offer 1:1 emotional support and group wellbeing sessions where you can talk through any challenges in a safe and supportive environment.
Support at School – Balancing schoolwork with caring responsibilities can be tough. We advocate for young carers, encouraging education professionals and employers to recognise their unique challenges and provide the support they need to thrive.
Our Commitment to Young Carers in Croydon
We are proud that Off the Record has been awarded a new contract to continue delivering our service to Young Carers and Young Adult Carers in Croydon. This means we can continue to keep supporting young carers like you with the help and resources you deserve.
